Introduction

In order to provide comprehensive eye care services to the children in the age group of 0-16 years, a pediatric ophthalmology unit was established in 2007 with the support of ORBIS International, USA. The wing was named as “Children Eye Care Centre”. A child friendly environment is provided to the children so that they can feel comfortable at the hospital and cooperate during investigation. The unit is well furnished with carpets and provision for play area has been made to give the child home like environment. Provision for separate special pediatric wards with one attender is also a special characterstic of this unit. Varied modern day equipments such as Auto-keratometer; Tonopen; Madox Wing; Prism Bar; Handheld Slit lamps; Auto Chart Projector; Hess Screen; Synoptophore etc. are installed at the unit.

The most common childhood eye diseases treated in this clinic are refractive errors, strabismus, amblyopia, congenital cataract, genetic eye diseases and congenital glaucoma and oculoplasty disorders.
